Mankato, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The Minnesota Vikings held the first practices of training camp on Monday, and first-year head coach Mike Zimmer said afterward he's happy with where the team is coming into the preseason.

"Actually I was very pleased with the retention we've had over the course of the five weeks we were off," Zimmer said. "I thought they did a good job remembering where we were as far as what we left off with and not making very many mistakes."

Wide receiver Cordarralle Patterson was noticeable absent from the first day of practice, with the team saying afterwards he is day-to-day with a foot injury.
