London, England (Northland's NewsCenter) --- Former University of Wisconsin star Evan Jager finished second in his heat on Friday, qualifying for the final of the men's steeplechase at the 2012 London Summer Olympic Games.
Jager finished in a time of 8:16.61 in his first Olympic appearance, less than a second off the pace set by France's Mahiedine Mekhissi-Benabbad.
The former Bagder owns the American record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, having posted a time of 8:06.81 on July 20, 2012.
Jager ran for the University of Wisconsin in the 2007-08 athletic year but did not return after that freshman campaign, instead deciding to turn to the professional ranks.
The final of the men's steeplechase in London is scheduled for August 5 at 3:25 p.m. CT.
