Ex-'Dog Fontaine Scores a Hat Trick, Wild Win

Phoenix, AZ (NNCNOW.com) --- Former University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) standout Justin Fontaine became the first rookie in Wild history to score a hat trick on Thursday night as Minnesota ousted Phoenix 4-1, also marking his first career multiple-goal game.

Fontaine got the Wild on the board in the first period and then added two goals in the third period in just his 39th game with the Wild.

Niklas Backstrom recorded 40 saves in goal for Minnesota to improve to (5-9-2) this season.

Minnesota (24-17-5) returns home to host Colorado on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
