Minneapolis, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Former Mesabi Range Community College (MRCC) pitcher Mark Hamburger has signed a contract with the Minnesota Twins, it was announced on Tuesday afternoon.
This will be Hamburger's second chance with the Twins, with that being the same club that originally signed him following a tryout in 2007. He was subsequently traded to Texas and has also spent time with San Diego and Houston.
Hamburger made his major league debut in 2011 with the Texas Rangers, appearing in five games and posting a 4.50 earned run average.
Should he make the Minnesota roster following spring training in 2014, he will have to serve a 50-game suspension following a violation of minor league baseball's drug policy.
In his sophomore season at MRCC, Hamburger went (11-0) on the mound with 80 strikeouts and was named a junior college All-American.
