St. Paul, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Former University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) forward Justin Fontaine scored his first NHL goal with the MInnesota Wild just 12 seconds into regulation on Saturday night in a 5-1 win over the Dallas Stars.
Fontaine's goal also marks the fastest in Wild history, besting Dany Heatley's record of 13 seconds on Feb. 9, 2012. Fontaine took the pass from Matt Cooke and then buried the backhand to beat goaltender Dan-Ellis.
It was a night of firsts for Minnesota. Matthew Dumba recorded his first NHL goal as well in the second period off of a pass from Dany Heatley. Later in the second, Nino Niederreiter scored his first goal as a member of the Wild.
Matt Cooke and Zach Parise also scored for Minnesota.
Minnesota (2-1-2) hits the road for a four-game road trip starting on Monday against the Buffalo Sabres.
