Philadelphia, PA (Northland's NewsCenter) --- Former UMD defenseman Matt Niskanen scored his first-ever playoff goal in the NHL on Wednesday night, scoring for Pittsburgh in a 10-3 win over Philadelphia.

Niskanen's goal came on a power play in the first period for the Penguins, and he also added an assist in the game.

The win for Pittsburgh was their first of the best-of-seven series with the Flyers, and now the series shifts back to the Penguins' home rink for a game five on Friday night.

Niskanen, a Mountain Iron native, played for the Bulldogs from 2005-2007. He scored 10 goals and had 35 assists in 77 games played for UMD.

Niskanen becomes the second Bulldog to score in the 2012 Stanley Cup playoffs, with Florida's Jason Garrison getting on the scoresheet Tuesday night.
