Gibson Gets the Win in Major League Debut

June 29, 2013 Updated Jun 29, 2013 at 7:38 PM CDT

Minneapolis, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Kyle Gibson pitched six strong innings in his major league debut, and the Twins scored five runs in the first inning to beat the Royal 6-2 on Saturday afternoon.

Gibson allowed just two runs on eight hits while striking out five and became the first first-rounder in Minnesota history to win in his major league debut.

Kansas City starter Wade Davis lasted one inning, his shortest outing of the season.

Justin Morneau had a two-run double for the Twins, and Trevor Plouffe added a two-run homer.

Gibson's call-up to the majors was delayed because of elbow replacement surgery in 2011. Gibson is scheduled to start again on July 4.

Minnesota (36-41) and Kansas City (37-41) play again on Sunday at 1:10 p.m. to wrap up the four-game series at Target Field.
