The St. Paul Pioneer Press is reporting wide receiver Sidney Rice, less than two months after hip surgery, was catching passes Friday during the Vikings' practice session at Winter Park.

Rice slowly jogged while injured reserve receiver Jaymar Johnson threw him a couple of passes in stride. Rice was on crutches until Tuesday, and should find out soon when he can return to football activities.

Quarterback Brett Favre threw passes during the media's 15-minute window of availability. Favre was limited in Thursday's practice and did not participate Wednesday because of elbow tendinitis. At his weekly press conference, Favre said he was open to the idea of sitting out a game if the tendinitis did not improve, though that appears to be unlikely. Favre has played in 289 straight regular season games. Minnesota hosts Dallas on Sunday.
