New York, NY (NNCNOW.com) --- Austin Hollins scored a game-high 19 points and the Minnesota men's basketball team outlasted Southern Methodist, winning 65-63 in the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) championship game at Madison Square Garden.

Hollins hit a three-pointer with 46.1 seconds remaining in the game to break a 59-59 tie, with Minnesota leading from that point on in the championship matchup.

Andre Hollins added 14 points for the Golden Gophers, and Deandre Mathieu chipped in with 13 points for Minnesota in the winning effort.

Minnesota also won the NIT title in 1993 and 1998, but the second one was vacated because of an NCAA rules violation involving player eligibility.
