London, England (Northland's NewsCenter) --- Wisconsin native Megan Kalmoe and the United States finished second in the first heat on Saturday in the quadruple sculls rowing event, meaning the team will need to compete in Monday's repechage to qualify for the final.
The United States finished in a time of 6:15.76, more than two seconds slower than the 6:13.62 time of heat winner Germany.
The Germans and Ukraine, winner of the second heat, are automatically through to the August 1 final, but the United States must now compete with five other boats to earn the chance to medal.
The repechage is essentially the semifinals of this event, with the top four boats going on to compete in the August 1 final.
