Detroit, MI (NNCNOW.com) --- Joe Mauer was held without a hit in Minnesota' 4-3 loss on Monday night to Detroit, marking the first time his career Mauer has gone five consecutive games without recording a base hit.
Mike Pelfrey pitched five strong innings for Minnesota before giving up three runs in the bottom of the sixth, leaving after having allowed four earned runs on seven hits across 5.1 innings.
Prince Fielder delivered the big blow for the Tigers, hitting a three-run home run in the sixth inning to make it a 4-3 game at that point and account for the game-winning hit.
Josh Willingham hit a home run in the first inning, his fifth of the year, and Oswaldo Arcia and Aaron Hicks also had RBI in the game.
Minnesota is now (11-11) this season and will next be in action at 6:08 p.m. on April 30 for game two of the team's series with Detroit.
