January 27, 2014 Updated Jan 27, 2014 at 10:43 PM CDT

Minneapolis, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- On the same day Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton officially announced a local campaign to bring the 2018 Super Bowl to Minneapolis, the city was named one of eight finalists to host an NCAA Final Four in the years 2017-2020.

Minneapolis joins Atlanta, Indianapolis, New Orleans, North Texas, Phoenix/Glendale, San Antonio and St. Louis as the eight finalist cities. Bid presentations will be made during the NCAA's fall meetings, and the winning cities will be announced in November.

Twice before (1992, 2001) has Minneapolis hosted the NCAA Final Four, with both those tournaments being played in the Metrodome.
