Des Moines, IA (NNCNOW.com) --- Minnesota's American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate will be called the Iowa Wild starting in the 2013-14 season, it was officially announced on Monday morning.
The team announced last week that it would be moving to Des Moines, Iowa starting next season, leaving its home of the past 12 years in Houston, Texas.
“Des Moines is an excellent sports market," Minnesota owner Craig Leipold said. "Wild fan support is excellent not just in the State of Hockey but throughout the Upper Midwest, including Iowa. We know fans in Des Moines will enjoy watching tomorrow’s Minnesota Wild stars. Our team will be entrenched in this community, particularly in youth hockey.”
The Iowa Wild will play its home games at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, that being a 16,000-seat arena that was opened in 2005.
