London, England (Northland's NewsCenter) --- Minnesota native Amanda Smock failed to qualify to the final of the women's triple jump on Friday at the 2012 London Summer Olympics, finishing 11th in her preliminary group.
Smock, a native of Melrose, Minn., posted a mark of 13.61 meters in her first-ever appearance at the Olympic Games. The lowest mark to qualify to the final was 14.16 meters.
Smock graduated from North Dakota State University in 2004, that after winning three NCAA Division II championships in the triple jump.
