St. Paul, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The Edmonton Oilers scored 27 seconds into the game on Friday night and never looked back, beating the Minnesota Wild by a 6-1 final score at the Xcel Energy Center.

A win would have clinched a playoff berth for Minnesota, but now the team will need a win in the regular season finale on Saturday against Colorado or a Columbus loss to Nashville to reach the postseason.

Niklas Backstrom allowed three goals on five shots, with backup Josh Harding coming on late in the first period to allow three goals on 12 shots the rest of the game.

Mikko Koivu scored the only goal for the Wild, that coming in the third period to make it a 6-1 game.
