San Francisco, CA (NNCNOW.com) --- Reigning NFL MVP Adrian Peterson played in two snaps in his first appearance of the 2013 season, and Christian Ponder threw two touchdowns but it wasn't enough as the 49ers beat the Vikings 34-14 on Sunday night.

Peterson played on the first offensive series of the game but was involved in two play-action passes where no one made contact with the running back.

Ponder finished the game 17 of 23 for 116 yards and two scores. Matt Cassel was 3 of 10 for 28 yards.

Stephen Burton led all Minnesota receivers with 3 catches for 31 yards while Greg Jennings had two catches for 24 yards.

Fullback Zach Line got Minnesota's opening touchdown of the game in the second quarter to put the Vikings within three.

Joe Webb added a touchdown grab in the third quarter to narrow San Francisco's lead to 20-14 before the 49ers put two more TD's on the board in the fourth.

Defensive tackle Kevin Williams left the game early in the third quarter after getting tangled up with offensive lineman Joe Looney. The Vikings may send the play to the league for review.

Minnesota's (0-3) final preseason game will be on Thursday against Tennessee. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. at Mall of America Field.
