Detroit, MI (NNCNOW.com) --- Adrian Peterson scored three touchdowns on Sunday afternoon, including a 78-yard score on the team's first play, but he and the Minnesota Vikings fell 34-24 to the Detroit Lions in the 2013 regular season opener.

After his game-opening score for the Vikings, Peterson then was bottled up a bit by the Lions defense and finished with 93 yards rushing on 18 attempts.

His performance was overshadowed in the Motor City by Bush, who finished with 191 total yards and a touchdown in his regular season debut with Detroit.

Christian Ponder was on the other end of the spectrum for Minnesota, struggling to an 18-of-28 passing performance for 236 yards, a touchdown, and three interceptions.

Somewhat of a surprise was the emergence of Jerome Simpson as a top receiving option, as he finished with a team-high seven catches for 140 yards.

Minnesota is now (0-1) this season and will next be in action on September 15 on the road against the Chicago Bears.
