Green Bay, WI (NNCNOW.com) --- Green Bay Packers linebacker Clay Matthews has a broken thumb and his season could be in jeopardy, that according to a report Monday by Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.
ESPN's Adam Schefter later tweeted that Matthews' injury would likely require surgery, a scenario that Schefter reports would keep the Pro Bowl player out for at least a month.
"I'm hopeful it's not season-ending," Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said Monday. "I think we're all hopeful, but you have to get all the opinions."
Matthews has played in all four games for Green Bay this season, totaling 18 tackles and three sacks while adding two forced fumbles for that defensive unit.
