Minneapolis, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Minnesota Timberwolves head coach Rick Adelman has decided to retire from coaching after a 23-year career in the NBA, he announced at a news conference on Monday morning.

Adelman joined the Timberwolves in 2011 and helped the team to a (97-133) record in his three seasons, including a (40-42) mark in 2013-14 that was the franchise's best since 2004-05.

The 67-year-old Adelman finishes his career as one of only eight head coaches in NBA history to have won more than 1,000 games --- he has 1,042 career victories --- and he plans to stay on with the Timberwolves as a consultant.
