Minneapolis, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- The Minnesota Timberwolves have signed free agent guard and Russia native Alexy Shved, the team announced on Wednesday.
The 23-year-old guard has spent the past six seasons playing professionally in Russia for CSKA Moscow, averaging 11.6 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 3.3 assists in the 2011-12 season.
Shved was named the most valuable player of the 2012 playoffs after helping his team to the Russian national championship, the fourth for CSKA Moscow during his time there.
The newest Minnesota player also has international experience, having helped the Russians earn a spot in the upcoming 2012 London Summer Olympic Games. In qualifying, Shved averaged 10.5 points and 5.0 assists for his team.
