Minneapolis, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Minnesota Twins general manager Terry Ryan has a cancerous growth in his neck and has been admitted to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., the team announced in a statement on Monday.

Ryan was undergoing an annual physical with team physician Dr. Vijay Eyunni, who discovered the lump and eventually diagnosed Ryan with squamous cell carcinoma.

The 60-year-old Ryan, though, said in the statement that doctors at the Mayo Clinic feel the cancer is treatable.

"Thankfully, incremental tests indicate the cancer appears to be confined to my neck and has not spread to other regions of my body," Ryan said. "At the direction of Dr. Eyunni, I am currently being treated at the Mayo Clinic as well as Minnesota Oncology. I've been assured this form of cancer is treatable and remain optimistic about my return to good health in the near future."

Ryan is in his second stint as Minnesota's general manager, having held he job from 1994-2007 before leaving and then returning prior to the 2011 season.

He also said in the statement that, due to his treatment plan, he will not be joining the team for the opening of spring training in Fort Meyers, Fla.
