Minneapolis, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier announced on Friday that Matt Cassel will be the starter at quarterback on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers, beating out both Christian Ponder and Josh Freeman.
Ponder, who started the season as the team's QB, missed Week 4 against Pittsburgh because of a fractured rib. He was cleared to play this week, but the Vikings opted to start Cassel.
Cassel completed 64 percent of his passes for 248 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions in a win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Freeman was signed with the Vikings earlier this week after being released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
