Eden Prairie, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- The Minnesota Vikings locked up one of the best running backs in the NFL for nearly the next decade Saturday, singing Adrian Peterson to a seven-year contract.
The deal is reportedly worth up to $100 million and comes just over a week after the Tennessee Titans signed running back Chris Johnson to a large, long-term deal.
Peterson has played four years in the NFL, all with Minnesota, and been selected every year to represent the NFC in the Pro Bowl.
He was entering the final year of his rookie contract, but now will stay with Minnesota through at least the 2017 season, when he will be 32 years old.
The announcement comes the same week the Vikings signed linebacker Chad Greenway to a five-year extension, hoping to solidify the team's defensive nucleus.
Minnesota opens the 2011 regular season this Sunday, September 11, on the road against the San Diego Chargers.
