New York, NY (NNCNOW.com) --- Warroad, Minn. native Brock Nelson has made the opening-night 23-man roster of the New York Islanders, that as the team announced its final cuts on Monday afternoon.
Nelson made his NHL debut last season with the Islanders in the postseason, playing in one game and recording no points.
He has yet to play in a regular season NHL game, playing all of last season in the American Hockey League (AHL) where he finished with 25 goals and 27 assists in 66 games played.
The 21-year-old Nelson was a first-round pick of New York in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, and he joined the franchise after playing two collegiate seasons at North Dakota.
The Islanders will open the season Oct. 4 on the road against New Jersey, with that game scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. CT start.
