St. Paul, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- The Minnesota Wild made a couple deals on Monday before the NHL trade deadline, sending defensemen Nick Schultz and Greg Zanon out of town as part of a massive defensive overhaul.
First the Wild dealt Schultz, the team's longest-tenured player, to Edmonton in exchange for Minnesota native Tom Gilbert, and then sent Zanon to Boston in exchange for Steven Kampfer.
Those moves, combined with the team trading Marek Zidlicky on Friday, leaves Minnesota with a much younger defensive corps on a team that is (28-25-9) and in 12th place in the Western Conference.
