St. Paul, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The Minnesota Wild has signed UMass-Lowell sophomore defenseman Christian Folin to a two-year, entry-level contract, it was announced on Monday night.
“Christian is a big, mobile defenseman who has a heavy shot and moves the puck well,” assistant general manager Brent Flahr said. “He plays a very mature game that we feel should allow him transition to the NHL very quickly."
The 23-year-old Folin just finished his sophomore season with UMass-Lowell, leading River Hawks defensemen with 20 points on four goals and 16 assists this winter and helping the team to the NCAA Northeast Regional championship game.
He will join the team on Wednesday in Chicago and will be eligible to play in any of the Wild's remaining six regular season games.
