Minneapolis, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Minnesota Timberwolves center Gorgui Deng has been named the NBA's Western Conference rookie of the month, the league announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Deng, a 6-foot-11 center for the Timberwolves, averaged 8.6 points and 8.3 rebounds per game in the month of March while filling in for an injured Nikolai Pekovic.

He becomes just the fifth-ever Minnesota player to earn the award, joining Ricky Rubio (January 2012), Kevin Love (March 2009), Randy Foye (December 2006), and Stephon Marbury (January 1997).
