Zimmerman, Nationals Blank the Twins in Game 1

Washington, D.C. (NNCNOW.com) --- Jordan Zimmerman won his ninth start of the season, and the Nationals scored more than three runs for the first time in eight games as Washington cruised by Minnesota on Sunday in game one of a doubleheader.

Zimmerman pitched seven shutout innings for the Nationals, giving up just two hits and striking out eight.

Scott Diamond lasted 4 2/3 innings for the Twins and gave up six earned runs on seven hits. Washington broke the game open in the fifth innings after Minnesota gave up three walks and two wild pitches.

Minnesota (27-32) and Washington (30-31) will meet Sunday night for the series finale.
