Head coach Todd Richards has been fired from the Minnesota Wild, after failing to make the playoffs again this season. Wild General Manager Chuck Fletcher made the announcement today, according to our news partners at KARE 11 in the Twin Cities.

The 44-year-old Richards is a native of Crystal, Minn. He posted a record of 77-71-16 in two seasons as head coach of the Wild.

He also carried the played in eight NHL games -- and played a dozen years in the minor leagues.
