Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- Pat Cadigan was announced on Monday as the 2012 recipient of the Marsh Nelson Media Award, given annually to recognize commitment to the coverage and development of Grandma's Marathon.

Cadigan has hosted a morning radio show in the Northland for more than 30 years, and he was the original starting announcer in 1981 for the Garry Bjorklund Half-Marathon.

Cadigan continued in that role for 15 years and now is widely considered a broadcasting icon in the Northland.

The award is named for former KDLH-TV sports director Marsh Nelson, who showed tremendous passion while covering Grandma's Marathon and other local events.
