Houston, TX (Northland's NewsCenter) --- Former UMD defenseman Mike Montgomery signed a professional tryout contract on Thursday to secure his second stint with the AHL's Houston Aeros.
The 25-year-old Montgomery was released from an earlier tryout contract with the Aeros, and has also played with the AHL's St. John's IceCaps this season.
In his first go round with Houston, Montgomery played in four games and recorded one assist.
The Minnesota native played four seasons for the Bulldogs, most recently as the senior captain of a team that won the program's first-ever NCAA national championship.
He scored four goals and had 34 assists during his time with the Bulldogs, totalling 38 points in 132 games played.
