Burlington, VT (Northland's NewsCenter) --- Former UMD Bulldogs Caroline Oullette scored the overtime game-winner on Saturday night, helping Canada to a 5-4 win over the United States in the gold medal game of the 2012 IIHF Women's Hockey World Championships.
It was Oullette's second goal of the contest, helping the Canadians to the country's tenth overall gold medal at the world championships. The win also stopped a streak of three titles by the Americans.
Outgoing UMD senior captain Haley Irwin is also a member of the Canadian team, one of 15 current and former Bulldogs players and coaches playing in the tournament.
