Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- UMD men's basketball coach Gary Kolquist stepped down from his position on Monday after 14 years with the program.
Kolquist will move into the administrative side of the athletic program, becoming the new director of development for UMD.
"The timing is right for me to make the move into administration, in which I personally view this position as the most important and needed departmental hire over the past decade," Holquist said.
Holquist amassed a record of (206-197) during his time with the Bulldogs and helped the team to two NCAA Division II playoff berths.
The team also won one Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) regular season title under Holquist, as well as two NSIC tournament championships.
UMD athletic director Bob Nielson said a nationwide search to fill Holquist's position will begin immediately.
