Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- St. Scholastica freshman Mickie Keuning was named this week as the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) pitcher of the week, that following a no-hit performance last Friday against Minnesota-Morris.
Keuning, a Duluth East graduate, threw just the seventh no-hitter in Saints program history and the first-ever by a freshman.
He struck out eight batters while walking two in seven hitless innings, marking the program's first non-combined no-hitter since 2001.
Kyle Moody caught that no-hit performance by Keuning and this week was named the UMAC player of the week.
Moody his 9-for-12 in four games last week, all of them wins, driving in eight runs and scoring four himself. Splitting his time between catcher and first base, he also did not commit an error in 28 chances.
The St. Scholastica women's 4x100-meter relay team also received conference honors this week after breaking a program record at the Hamline Invitational on Friday.
Duluth Central graduate Laurel Ohaju highlights the foursome, which also includes Brianna Buske, Rachel Thelen, and Maggie Bair, all of whom were named UMAC athletes of the week.
