Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- The St. Scholastica softball team was picked to win the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) in this year's preseason coaches' poll, which was released Wednesday afternoon.
The Saints won both the regular season and postseason UMAC championships last year en route to the program's second-ever NCAA regional tournament appearance.
The team does return the 2011 UMAC player of the year in catcher Bonnie Kowalcyz, who led the team in nearly ever offensive category a year ago.
