Superior, WI (Northland's NewsCenter) --- The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) announced Monday that three former UW-Superior greats will be among its inaugural hall of fame class.

Doug Sutherland, David Graichen, and Americo "Mertz" Mortorelli will be three of the first inductees into the WIAC Hall of Fame.

Sutherland, a Superior native, was a member of the football and track and field team during his time as a Yellowjacket. He went on to play in the NFL, including 10 years with the Minnesota Vikings.

Graichen played goaltender on four men's hockey teams that participated in the NCAA Division III national tournament, including runner-up finishes in 1994 and 1997.

Mortorelli coached a combined 109 seasons in eight sports at UW-Superior, compiling a combined record of (862-534-26) in baseball, basketball, football, golf, gymnastics, tennis, wrestling, and track and field. He also served as the school's athletic director from 1954 until his death in 1985.
