Duluth Marshall advances to Class A semis

By KBJR News 2

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) _ Duluth Marshall is one step closer to redemption.
Junior Pat Mahoney scored early in the third period and Marshall held on to defeat Mankato West two-to-one in the first game of the Class 1A boys' state hockey tournament today.
Mahoney deflected in Dano (Dan-oh) Jacques' shot from the blue line 13 seconds into a Hilltoppers power play. Last year's state
runner-up also killed Mankato's two-man advantage later in the
period to win their seventh game in a row.
David Hafferty also scored for the Hilltoppers and Willie Paul made 20 saves. Second-seeded Marshall will play in Friday's
semifinal against either third-seeded Warroad or Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato.
Andrew Bruggeman (Brue-guh-man) scored for Mankato West.
