CEC falls in AA Quarterfinals

Edina got off to an impressive start in the quest for its first state hockey title in 11 years.

Joe Gleason scored a pair of goals for the Hornets in their 5-0 victory over Cloquet-Esko-Carlton in the Class 2A boys hockey tournament quarterfinals.

Senior goaltender Derrick Caschetta stopped all 27 shots he faced for Edina's third shutout victory of the season.

The the second-seeded Hornets advance to face Benilde-St. Margaret's or
Woodbury in the semifinals tomorrow.

Connor Gaarder, Zach Budish and Marshall Everson also scored for Edina.

The six-time state champs are looking for their first title since 1997.
