Superior, WI (Northland's NewsCenter) --- Superior Spartans junior cross country runner Leah Holmes advanced to her third state meet in as many years this past weekend, finishing third in the sectional meet at Wasau.

The state meet will be held this Saturday in Wisconsin Rapids, and will be nothing new for the only Superior girl to ever qualify for consecutive state cross country meets.

Earlier this year, Holmes set a personal record and finished first at the Swain Invitational, the first time she had ever run that particular course.

A few weeks later, Holmes bested that personal record and set another at the Lake Superior Conference (LSC) meet, again crossing the finish line in first place.

She and four other Spartans were named to the LSC All-Conference team, and now Holmes will set her sights on a state title.

Tom Hansen has more with the Spartans junior in this week's Sammy's Pizza Turn Back the Clock feature.
