Turn Back the Clock: UMD's Derek Plante

Cloquet, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- It was 23 years ago now a speedy player from Cloquet was being recruited by Mike Sertich and the UMD men's hockey team.

Since that time, Derek Plante has become an All-American and played fifteen seasons of professional hockey, including eight in the NHL.

In his four seasons as a Bulldog, the Cloquet native scored 96 goals and tallied 123 assists for 219 points.

During his time in the NHL, Plante played 450 games, scored 96 goals, and earned 152 assists for a career total of 248 points.

He is now in his second season of being an assistant coach under UMD men's head coach Scott Sandelin, including last season when the Bulldogs won their first-ever national championship.
