Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- After stopping 56 shots en route to a series sweep of Wisconsin, University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) freshman goaltender Kayla Black was named on Wednesday as the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) defensive player of the week.

Black didn't allow a goal in two games against the Badgers, earning her first two collegiate wins and first two collegiate shutouts. In fact, she is the first-ever UMD freshman to post back-to-back shutouts in a single weekend series.

The freshman is now (2-2-0) with the Bulldogs this season, ranking fifth in NCAA Division I with a .941 saves percentage and sixth with a goals against average of 1.52.
