Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) junior libero Julie Rainey has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) defensive player of the week, it was announced on Monday.

Rainey finished with 56 digs this past weekend in two Bulldogs' victories, with that number being more than enough to break the program's all-time career digs record.

The Stewartville, Minn. native now has 1,710 digs in her collegiate career to put her tops in UMD history, with the former record holder being Cheryl Carlson with 1,703.

Rainey averaged a league-best 7.00 digs per set this past weekend for UMD, and she also added nine set assists and a service ace to her strong effort.

This marks the fifth time this season Rainey has been named NSIC defensive player of the week.
