Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Greg Bower has been named the new special teams coordinator and defensive secondary coach at the University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD), it was announced on Monday.
Bower comes to UMD after serving the past five years as defensive coordinator at UW-River Falls, replacing the departing Tyler Yelk for the Bulldogs.
The Falcons defense in 2012 racked up 80 tackles for a loss, 30 sacks, 30 pass breakups, 14 interceptions, and 12 fumble recoveries --- all highs during Bower's five-year tenure.
Before UW-River Falls, Bower spent eight seasons coaching at Northern Illinois University. He was in charge of the tight ends from 2004-07 and the defensive tackles from 2002-03, that after spending two seasons in a graduate assistant role.
Bower got his start in coaching at Loras University, where he served as the defensive coordinator in the last four of his seven seasons.
