Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- The University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) men's and women's basketball teams opened up official practices on Monday afternoon, with both programs looking for continued success in the 2012-13 season.

The men have a new head coach this season in Matt Bowen, who was the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) coach of the year in the 2011-12 season with Bemidji State.

The Bulldogs posted a (14-13) overall record a year ago and will open up the new campaign on November 3 against UW-Superior.

The women, meanwhile, are looking for a return trip to the NCAA Division II tournament after posting an (18-10) overall record last season.

Annette Wiles is back for her fifth season with UMD, and Barnum natives Katrina Newman and Jessica Newman are a couple highlights of the returning players to the Bulldogs this winter.

The women kick off their 2012-13 season on November 10-11 with a road trip to San Antonio, Texas to play games against Central Oklahoma and St. Mary's.
