Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- The University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) football team has been ranked second in the preseason poll put out by the American Football Coaches' Association (AFCA), it was announced on Monday.

The Bulldogs received five of a possible 30 first-place votes in the poll, finishing second to only Pittsburg State. UMD is one of only two teams from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) to crack the top 25, with St. Cloud State being the other at 16th.

Winners of two of the past four NCAA Division II championships, the Bulldogs have been in the top 25 of every AFCA poll since September 29, 2008.

The team opens play in the 2012 season on August 30 at Southwest Minnesota State, with the home opener coming September 8 against Winona State. Every UMD home game this season can be seen live in the Northland on the My 9 Sports Network.
