Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) women's soccer team scored a goal late but couldn't overcome a two-goal deficit as they fall to Grand Valley State 2-1 on Sunday afternoon in the NCAA quarterfinals.
Junior Jennifer Smith scored on a free kick late in the second half to bring UMD within a goal but that's all the offense the Bulldogs could muster. UMD outshot the Lakers 12-11 but only got one shot past goalkeeper Abbey Miller.
Marti Corby scored just four minutes into the first half to put the Lakers ahead 1-0. Charlie Socia added the eventual game-winning goal in the 72nd minute to make it 2-0.
Bulldog goalkeeper Marissa Rosa finished with two saves.
UMD ends the season at (17-5-1), matching the program record for most wins.
