Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Former Cloquet-Esko-Carlton standout Karson Kuhlman has signed a national letter of intent to play Division I college hockey at the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) starting in the 2014-15 season, the school announced on Thursday evening.

Kuhlman will fill the roster spot of Caleb Herbert, who gave up his final year of collegiate eligibility to sign a two-year, entry-level contract with the Washington Capitals.

The Esko, Minn. native skipped his senior year of high school hockey with the Lumberjacks to join Dubuque of the United States Hockey League (USHL), where he has 25 goals and 19 assists in 56 games played this 2013-14 season.
