Grand Forks, ND (NNCNOW.com) --- The search for a new University of North Dakota (UND) head football coach has been narrowed to two, and former University of Minnesota Duluth head coach Bubba Schweigert is one of the finalists, that according to a report filed Wednesday by Tom Miller at the Grand Forks Herald.

Schweigert is now the associate head coach and defensive coordinator at Southern Illinois and is actually up against one of his current co-workers for the position, that being Southern Illinois offensive coordinator Kalen DeBoer.

In his four seasons as UMD head coach, Schweigert amassed a record of (22-21), including an (8-4) season in 2005 that saw the Bulldogs win a share of the North Central Conference (NCC) and qualify for the NCAA Division II tournament.

He has worked at UND before, spending 15 seasons with the program before leaving for the UMD job. In that time, he helped UND to six NCC titles and was part of the program's NCAA Division II championship in the 2001 season.

Miller's report, which can be read here, says the school hopes to announce a hire before Christmas.
