Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Former University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) defenseman Drew Olson has signed an amateur tryout (ATO) contract with the Peoria Rivermen in the American Hockey League (AHL), that according to the league's official web site.

Peoria was the AHL affiliate of the St. Louis Blues, but that franchise's ownership group sold the Rivermen's rights to the Vancouver Canucks earlier this month. That change will take effect following the current 2012-13 season.

The Brainerd, Minn. native skated in 144 games in four years for the Bulldogs, totaling three goals and 18 assists in that time and serving his senior season as an assistant captain.

Olson was drafted by Columbus in the fourth round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, but a report from The Columbus Dispatch in late March said the Blue Jackets did not plan on signing him.
