Syracuse, NY (NNCNOW.com) --- Former University of Minnesota-Duluth defenseman Drew Olson signed a one-year deal with the American Hockey League's (AHL) Syracuse Crunch on Friday after spending last season with the Peoria Rivermen of the AHL.

The 23-year-old skated in five games with Peoria and recorded one assist. The 6-foot, 200-pound defenseman played four seasons with the Bulldogs and collected three goals and 21 points in 147 games including a national championship in 2011.

Olson was drafted in the fourth round, 118th overall by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft before Tampa acquired his rights last July.
